I came across this video editing programme

http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/

it is free for non-commercial use and seems to work really well on the laptop

it has the best video stablisation I have come across so far

it also offers photo editing and audio editing

well worth playing with I think

Thanks, Dylan.

You do realise that the chances of ever getting Salty's old camera off me now have just plummeted? :D

I have struggled with editing on the MS bundled package & a couple of others, but that looks promising in its simplicity AND its range of options/ effects.

All I need now is some time to fiddle & play . . .

Hi Dylan

Not wanting to hijack a thread before its even started but can I ask what software you use for you basic editing?

Cheers

Ian

Sweet, I'm going to have to check out VideoPad!

However, if not able to afford an editor like Adobe Premier, and VideoPad isn't getting the job done, a couple other basic and free alternative video editors to check out would be:

Live Essentials Movie Maker (Microsoft - works best with internet connection) - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials
Windows Movie Maker (Microsoft's older free video editor, many prefer it to the new version) - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34

If I just need to edit a videos length, throw some slides/credits up, and be done - then I go with Windows Movie Maker. If I need to maybe do some actual video editing, audio, and other edits - then I use Live Essentials Movie Maker.

Of Course, if I just need to convert/transcode a video file from one format to another, Handbrake is ALWAYS choice number one! https://handbrake.fr/

Thanks for the link.

I normally use Premiere (Elements) but the link you provided also lets you download a converter which makes life far simpler if, for example, you want to quickly convert from HD to something that can be emailed. Pretty impressed.

I do some aerial videos and photos from a Hexacopter Drone. Been using a few free programs for stabilising videos. Have now got a 3 axis brushless gimbal to swing the camera on. What a difference. Smooth as silk video shots.
I know you can get hand held and mountable lipo powered brushless SLR gimbals on ebay quite reasonably now. Mount one to the boat using peg mounts positioned in various places. It keeps the camera perfectly level no matter how fast you move it and try to upset the camera.

Smaller version for go-pro style cameras.

Will try out the software you recommend and see what its like. You tubes own version seems to make things stretch and compress. Very strange.

Thanks Dylan.
