Stabilisation at rest: Anti-roll tank

Possibly slightly off topic. I did a stint on a deep water dredger doing marine diamond exploration off the west coast of Africa. The vessel had a huge A frame and moon pool affair for the dredging tool, the A frame significantly above the CoG.. The vessel RV Benguela was a modified DP ferry with a shallow draft. During one particularly bad storm I was rather alarmed by the manner of the ship's roll. It would roll to ~18 degrees and hang there for a few seconds then roll back gaining momentum right the way through before just hanging there for what seemed forever. No even swing effect at all. Just a rush from side to side hang, rush back. Even the Fillipino crew looked rather anxious.

Doing any kind of construction work from a floating barge is hairy:eek:
