sta-lok fittings and rigging experiences

Anyone using sta-lock fittings on the upper ends in addition to deck level?

Coming close to new rig time and I'm trying to make a decision on which way to go. I have 4 lower shrouds, two cap shrouds, single backstay and furling system up front. All swagged, the upper ends are riveted to the mast.
Leaning towards getting rid of all swagged fittings and rivets. Anyone gone down this route? Hot or not?
The thought of being able to complete rigging repairs myself appeals. Not keen on welding new tangs to the mast though.

I like the StaLock end fittings and it certainly makes the rigging job achievable by the DIY route, are you sure your masthead fittings are rivetted to the mast, my experience has always been that the caps, b'stay and forstay fit into/onto a casting inserted into mast end with caps maybe inserted through a slot in mast and onto clevis pin in similar casting, goes without saying that tremendous stress up there, needs to be right.

I replaced the forestay and the R/R sliders last year and swaged on the bottom bottlescrew fitting in order to slide through RR but fitted the StaLock at top end once I got the length right so I could do job on quayside with halyards supporting mast, quite costly to put StaLock stuff up at the top of all fixed rigging!! Fittings can be swaged on and wire cut a bit longer than necessary so you can fit StaLock at bottom end.

i re-rigged my Co32 with sta-lock both ends to enable easy re-rig later. i hope the new owner realised that

There was an article a while back in PBO on replacing the t-bar type with "old fashioned" tangs. The tangs were bolted through the mast with top-hat bushes locating them - welding a stainless tang to an aluminium mast would be a complete no-no!

yeah -
I suspect (or would like to think) the caps are already tanged at masthead. The four lowers are rivited. In truth, can't be sure - the mast hasn't been down and I havn't been up during my hitherto brief ownership. Always considered myself more a hoister than a hoistee & still looking for a "volunteer".

good point on cost - must do the sums and quit this procrastination.

getting tangs fitted for the lowers is the challenge. Welding to the mast is out I feel but I would still like to get away from swagged eyelets.

just saw your post rob - any idea of the PBO edition?
