Anyone cast some light on what the "Tack Angle" means. I just tried out my new ST60+ wind yesterday.

I have it linked to a ST60+ tridata for speed over Seatalk. I also have a tiller-pilot that supplies compass data over Seatalk. Tack angle changes if I disconnect the tiller pilot and swing it around so I know the data is getting through OK.

I did a few sums in my head while sailing yesterday & can't work out what the tack angle means. I had originally thought it was the wind direction as a compass bearing but the sums don't add up. The manual is useless on this.

I'm pretty sure it means the angle you would be sailing if you were at the same angle to the wind on the other tack. Can be quite useful if you're trying to work out if you'll lay the harbour on the next tack.

the 60 is an instrument, not an auto pilot, so it's just a bearing for reference, not the angle the auto pilot will tack the boat through.
