For about 3 yrs I have intermittent problems with my ST60 wind instrument.

It can work for days OK but then goes off with needle usually pointing straight ahead and display showing --- .

Sometimes it goes off after only 10min!

It always works OK once I reboot the instruments but again it can be only for minutes or can be for days.

Paid Raymarine agent some £300 who diagnosed mast cable and replaced it - no different.

I have climbed mast disconnected mast head unit checked terminal and refitted with Contralube 550 electrical connection grease about 4 times.

This weekend check instrument head connections but OK. This weekend it worked continuously while checking it!

On a question of probability I think it most likely to be a poor mast head connection. As it works OK on every reboot I do not think it can be either a mast head or display fault as I would expect these to be constant. I could return units to Raymarine but suspect they will be OK and on any static test certainly OK.

Apart from buying a new unit complete and just replacing it in parts any ideas.

Have checked voltages as both mast base and back of display and all within Raymarine figure. My understanding is in event of any intermittent loss of signal instrument will not reboot if signal is regained and needs a reboot by switching on/off the 12V supply.

As a dinghy sailor I can sail on just my feel for the wind but be nice to have all the instruments working.

Don't think this will help you much , but I had the same problem from 5 months old ST60 .
First RM engineer placed the display , second RM engineer replaced the sender unit ..
Guess what the third RM engineer replaced ? Yep cable and it works fine ever sinces .

When mine did similar intermittent --- fault turned out to be the masthead unit. Borrowed new masthead unit last year and fitted it and --- has not come back. Removing and replacing original one did not help, and contacts looked good.

I am happy to sail without dials but others like them.....
