It seems that a few people with ST60 Speed/Log have the same problem as me in that the device changes its speed units on its own when it should not.

Yesterday I noticed that it was doing it every few minutes while I watched. At the time I had my instruments on, but my ST2000+ autopilot connected to the Seatalk bus, but powered off.

I know that the ST2000+ autopilot can cause Seatalk bus problems when it is connected but unpowered (it prevents some other Seatalk devices communicating on Seatalk on my system). So then I tried watching the ST60 with the autopilot back on, and also off but physically disconnected. In both cases the ST60 units did not change again.

So is this the cause of the problem I and others have experienced? Perhaps others who have seen this problem could see if they can reproduce it by having an unpowered but connected autopilot on their Seatalk system.

Suggest you phone Raymarine in Portsmouth and ask to talk to their technical people (sorry haven't got their no. to hand) they're pretty helpful and have a data base of a lot of these unexplained errors that you dont see in handbooks.

It may be an early sign of failure. I have an ST60 system with an Autohelm 100/300 controlling a 6000 Autopilot. Last season I got a number of funnies on the system, depth freezing etc, which sould only be cleared by restarting the system. This year, on a trip to Brighton the log suddenly read zero, or went up to about 45 knots and then back down again. Investigation showed it was the log unit in the hull and I had to fit a new one.

Good sailing
