I have a ST2000 TillerPilot mounted Port side (the opposite to factory default) and have wired it up to the GPS (a Garmin 128) NEMA output .

When I put it into track mode it turns the wrong way and the XTE gradually increases rather than comes back to zero!

Has anyone got a similar setup that works?

You can download a copy of the handbook from the Raymarine website for free. It details how to reverse the sense for LH (port) mounting.

Apologies if you've gone through all this already, but how long have you held it in track mode? When first put into track, the unit uses its compass to make the initial heading, and only once a significant XTE is established (as much as 0.4 miles, but usually less) does it use this to return to the desired track (probably with you cursing it for putting you on an unsailable course). If the compass calibration is out by a significant amount, it could cause the symptoms you describe.

Perhaps best try it first on any track where the unit's idea of heading is close to reality.

One dodge, when it darts off on the wrong heading immediately after you've engaged track, it will respond to the +/- buttons, so you can get it nearer your desired track that way -- but it's far from ideal.
