Shell Channel Pilot says HW+/-0230 day, +/-0030 night.
Reeds says "HW+/-2 1/2 if coeff > 79; if coeff < 41 HW-2 1/2 +1 3/4". This really doesn't make sense - what happens if 79 > coeff > 41?
Coeff > 79 this week so the Reeds funny doesn't matter, but does anyone know whether it really is +/- 2 1/2 at night or does it reduce to +/- 0030 as St Tom says?
Can't find any info on web.
Thanks.

Oops just found answer (+/-0030) but can't find how to delete post!

Thanks, I didn't find exactly that page, no.
Interestingly the narrative page also talks about coefficient, same as Reeds, but doesn't explain between 40 and 80.
It doesn't mention reduced hours at night.
However when you go to the linked tidetables - which I found by another route - they do show night openings only being for an hour e.g. this Thursday (the day of interest) HT is at 00.58 and the gate is open 00.30 to 01.30.
So it looks like a combination of both! A bit confusing.

I agree. I've not been there, so I felt unable to comment, but reading the info on the webpage I was left a little befuddled.

Presumably, at night before and after the gates open, the water in the basin must equalise with the rising tide outside - of else they wouldn't then be able to open the gates. So, I'm guessing this is done via sluices.

I agree unclear what happens between a coefficient of 40 and 80. Presumably one can work it out from the gate times, though.
