We realised fairly early on FriAm that we could'nt make the lock so we went to Cherbourg. Cutter, wild Honey & Observer did though I think it was Fri Pm rather than Am they got there. What was early fri am for you, we had some very large seas.

We made it in time for dinner at the Fuschias with the excellent company of Wild Honey - the cat- and the Mobo Dream Dancer. Set off Haslar 0615 and arr 1900 local after a lumpy crossing. Good breakfast in sunshine, visit to M Gosselin's emporium and then roughish sail round to Chbg in time for the festivities. Well worth making the effort for.
Regards
Richard

As I recall, there was a large swell and we took about three into the cock pit during the night.. The main problem I had was that the Rhumb line was dead down wind.. I decided against the spinny during darkness.. wasn't certain about the location of the Barfleur race so probably gave it too wide an offing..
In order to make the trip comfortable we kept the wind (App) about 135 off stbd so ended up off Chcb had to come even more south to avoid an exclusion circle north of the place..Got to St Vaast about 0915 Phoned TomE for the second time and the rascal had snuck to Chbg without telling us!!
Cheers Bob e..

We were in contact with Moondance and they in turn with Glen Rosa on the way over Thursday night. GR was some way behind and wouldn't make the lock so we all diverted to Chbg, at the time we were 20M north StV and downtide Chbg. Arrived 06:00, just under 12 hours from Northney.

There was a large swell running with the left-overs of the gale on Thursday. Made for some interesting steering and one rogue rolled us as one of the crew was exiting the heads - he ended up with his fingers trapped in the door and will lose both nails. Fortunately nothing broken, but had to dig out the first aid kit to stem the bleeding. We ran under full genoa only the whole way.

I think the Fri am departure was a good call for most, especially with novice crew.

Unfortunately one of our team got stuck on the M25 so our departure was delayed. We had a single reef in the main and a 3 or 4 rolls in the genoa, really needed to keep the speed up to deal with the large swell with a lot of slop on top. One of the crew was incapacitated due to mal de mer (we think , he says it was my curry) for only the second time in 52 years.
