Many years ago we spent a very pleasant day with the kids exploring the uninhabited Iles St Marcouf, a few miles SE from St Vaast. Two small islands the larger of which has a massive fort built on it. There is a fair weather anchorage between the islands.
It looks now that the islands are off limits to visitors on foot but it would be a pleasant anchorage for a lunch stop in good weather.
Hmm! A couple of years ago I was planning a brief stop off at the islands on my way from Carentan to Cherbourg. In the end there was a northerly blowing, so progress was slowed beating north towards Barfleur and the little shelter afforded against a northerly would have meant that anchoring there would not have been pleasant, so we didn't bother. We pressed on to Cherbourg instead.
I was aware, from Reeds, that Ile de Terre was a bird santuary (and so out of bounds), but not that Ile du Large was also "acces interdit". (Indeed, reeds almost encourages you to land there by mentioning the dinghy harbour). Interested to know from your links that Ile du Large has ONLY (!) been out of bounds for 23 years!!
