Anyone else feel like I do about it? Although the showers continue to get five stars for that part of the world the noise throughout the day from about 5am to midnight, coming from the traffic on the main road and works in the harbour make the whole harbour a positively unpleasant experience. I've taken to anchoring in Havelet Bay but with family pressures to get ashore that's not always possible. Do I expect too much?

I know what you mean! What about these 'award winning shower'? The ones we used were pretty average, bordering on c**p!

We were rafted against two big cats, another couple of feet and we would have been in M&S! The noise did die down about midnight.

Its a good place to arrive in CI's, we were only kept there by fog, it was thick, once it cleared off so did we, anchored up to the south of the Island, lovely.

re noisy harbours

padstow at first glance appears to be ripe for noisy nights with lots of restaraunts and pubs around the harbour. however on 2 recent visits i noticed after 10.30 the noise stops like magic. perfect -lively evening and good nights sleep.

Why not stay in the outer harbour to avoid the traffic noise - mind you the shot blasting and ferries makes up for the car noise?
I quite like the "town" atmosphere in the Victoria Marina - it's quite a nice change for us and SWMBO likes M&S.

On that side of the harbour.....

...it was the incessant bleeping of the pedestrian crossing that gradually drove us out of our skulls.

However for sheer traffic noise, NOWHERE beats the Patras Gulf ancient micro-harbour of Navpaktos. The Greeks run a mighty four lane snarl-up full of 44tonners, cruising boy-racers and screaming motorbikes through there 24/7 just feet away from the yacht moorings.

ah so it's shot blasting is it? wondered. felt that we were between the aspects of the inner already outlined and 'hell' in the outer from early on each day. as I sleep in the cockpit under canvas I am particularily exposed /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

anyone know when it's due to finish?

What? Shot-blasting during the SeaGuernsey Festival? If so, sounds like someone is sabotaging someone else......

I heard someone in the Tourist Office last month discussing the idea of having a car race around the town next year, a little like the Monaco Grand Prix. They thought that the harbour marinas would be able to charge a big premium for berths.....

If neither the outer pontoons ( plus all-day water taxi ) nor Havelet Bay are quiet enough, could you not have considered one of the marinas a little further north, and taken the frequent buses? At only 50p for anywhere, anytime, rather a bargain! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you want peace and quiet you must go to Beaucette Marina next time. It really is an amazing place with a good restaurant and that is about it!

not that many; but it would depend on how they stack 'em in I suppose. Tuesday night after the BH we were the only 2 boats there on about 200 ft of dedicated pontoon but there were a couple of larger craft that had been placed elsewhere.

thought the restraunt excellent and good value. they even catered off menu for the kids.

however the actual marina costs were the most expensive by far that we experienced at £17.50 for the night. electricity was an additional 2.50 a night. as a direct comparison St PP was £12 and an additional £2 got you electricity for as long as you were there.

it was quiet though..........

A long way from always being the case, but Padstow is nice.

I find that having had a great meal and plenty to drink I don't notice the noise from one of my my favourite places.

There is always room. We have never been turned away. The entrance is unique and there are buoys outside the entrance if you need to wait for water.

irish bar great crack had many a wid night and lock ins. bad swell in winter tho seen many boats damaged slaming into pontoons and pontoons breaking up. a cleat shot past my wifes head as it ripped out of a deck, missing by inchs it was like lottery no.s coming up but forgot to buy a ticket

Would agree with that.....total peace and quiet and the real Guernsey, spent a lot of time around there as a nipper before the Royal Engineers blested out the rock to convert the then stone quarry into a marina. I see it has been recently bought over by a present berth holder so he can preserve the peaceful atmosphere!!

Just wander around the lanes close by or wander along the rocky shoreline to discover the real Guernsey.

Paul.

Someone has to be on the other side... we have just had a great trip up to SPP (missing our target of Salcombe, due to a 190º error in the compass /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) and found it v ok. Esp at the prices charged. Two last days of August were £16 + £1 for elec. and then it switched to £0 for SeaGuernsey 2/9 to 11/9... best value found for a long time, including all the cheap French marinas!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Maybe a couple of glasses of Bass and going to bed tired has the appropriate effect??
