I went to the St Osyth boatyard on Friday, and just to report as from Friday it is now being run by Brian Kennell and Shaun White, who have restored the large Brightlingsea smack Pioneer and several Dunkirkers including Endeavour and Letitia. On Friday they were fitting a massive new oak tiller to the barge Dawn, but are looking for planking/timbering work up to complete projects.

The owner is going continental cruising on a dutch barge (if the owner is Andy Harman - Brian gave me a breakdown as to who had worked there over the years, which barges & smacks had been restored etc, but I didn't know any of the names so difficult to remember, I remember though that the chap who had been running it was going off on a Dutch barge).

Thanks Ian. I had a lot of work done on Sniper nearly 20 years ago down there and got to know some of the regular guys quite well. Andy was definitely the owner then, so presumably still is. It was always a very good atmsosphere down there - informal and 'can do'
