In St Quay and informed by capitainaire that St Malo is full and turning away boats.

We were thinking of doing 2 months next year sailing (July & August) and going to S Brittany. Appreciate that August is the French holidays so have others found ports getting full and refusing boats in S Brittany/Bay of Biscay.

Obvious concern is being refused entry and weather kicking up in Bay of Biscay.

Be returning this week so only need to squeeze into SPP & Aldernay this year.

We were in St Malo for Bastille Day. I avoid going in to either of the marinas and instead tie up against the city wall.
I wonder if they are refering to Sablons marina. That gets pretty full.
Whilst the Vauban Marina might get full I've never had an issue against the wall.

Where's that, exactly? Inside the outer breakwater to the south of the old city? Doesn't that dry out?

Pete

Go through the big commercial lock in to Basin Vauban. There is a waiting bouy just outside.
Once through the lock there is a long wall on the left before you get to the marina at the Northern end. Tie up against that. The range in the basin is very small so no worries about tidal drops.
You are then right next to the old city wall and all the attractions.

Ah, yes, I know. I was a bit perplexed by "against the city wall", as I remember all the basins being next to a fair-sized road rather than the wall. But I suppose "across the road" is close enough :)

(I've not sailed to St Malo in a yacht, but spent several days there in Pelican as part of the Tall Ships' Race the other year.)

If you want a bit of a laugh, you can see a demonstration of the French Navy's new invisibility cloaking device courtesy of Google streetview.

Go to the southern end of basin vauban where the city wall starts (on Google maps there is a roundabout there) and, in Streetview, stare out into the basin. You will see a French warship tied alongside. If you then click the button to move north (i.e. to the left) it suddenly disappears.

I had no problem in S Brittany last year.
Lots of space here in N Spain at the moment.
Heading back to Brittany tomorrow (Tuesday) so I will tell you more when we meet in September.

PS maybe it's a boat size issue!

I am on the ferry coming back from St Malo after spending three pretty good weeks in South Brittany.

Houat only 50 boats at anchor but then the vent solaire was forecast and happened!

La Palais was turning people away but cant stand the place anyhow!

Sauzon was busy but bouys were available plenty of space if you can dry out.

Haliguen was busy but not overcrowded.

La Trinite was finding spaces even after visitor pontoons full

Morbihan no problem at Isle aux Moins, Crouesty was busy but not Complet.

Arzal and river villaine were very quiet.........

If you are going to spend longer than a few weeks in the area go for the Sagemoor passporte as this might help get you in!

Just thinking can we afford to go back next year. Pound is rubbish against euro.
