Anyone else doing it?

We are going on my mates dad's Bowman 36 which I think has never seen a race in its life so if we manage to get through the safety inspection and the IRC certificate turns up in time we will be last anyway.......!

Also the wind forecast for Friday looks pretty poor, ie no wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I currently rate our chances of getting a result as about 25%. Any result will be a victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't quite get over the 0930 start from Pabbay which means an ungodly starting time from Loch Maddy. With the swell coming from the south it should be a nice roly drift until the wind on the nose sets in.
Enjoy the parties!

Looking at the gribs i cant really see how we are going to make it!!

I think the main purpose is drinking beer. My mate and his dad used to live in Stornoway so I think they know everyone......!!

Hope they get a reasonable turnout.

However, whilst St Kilda is definitely on our target list of places we want to visit (and we are currently not too far away), the idea of racing tantalisingly close then turning round and coming straight back seems like all the bumpy / hassle bits, and none of the gain of actually landing. So we are giving it a miss

Well there were 15 starters in the race and 15 in the flotilla. Lochmaddy was excellent. Good weather, great atmosphere. Good organisation.

I unfortunately had to bail out due to a problem at home. My lot retired after about 5 hours due to light winds.

I've been watching some of the boats on Marine Traffic and it looks like they have got some finishers which is great for them. At one point it was looking like they wouldn't get any!

Not so great for the slower boats though as the requirement to get back to Lochmaddy for 5pm meant an effective finish time of about 1pm which was too tight for us in light airs.

Lochmaddy seems very nice though. Brand new pontoons, a decent enough hotel/pub etc.

Seems only 8 finishers in the race out of 15. I imagine all the slower boats gave up! People seem to have had fun. We need a faster boat for next time!

Not sure if the race could be called fun , but it had to be done , turned out like an atypical offshore race up here , race for 18 hrs sail into a hole and get passed by someone from miles behind watching you pirouetting on there ais ( which couldnt be seen from shore ) , lochmaddy was great fun , delivery from mallaig and back to loch creran too ,with stops at skye and tobes too , high spot rounding st kilda in 45 mins was a surprise. Dolphin shows on to and fro loch maddy. Spectacular with the odd minke .
