Hi,

I am just working out if its poss to get up to the thames for this weekend and what i need to do for licensing etc.

1) Am considering leaving on fri evening tide lock times 14:45 - 18:15 with high water 16:45.

The P45 needs air draft of about 5 mtrs so I may have to wait at hammersmith to get under.

2) Once i do get under the bridge do you think i will have any depth problems getting to non tidal bit?

3) I dont have a license , will i have a problem ?

You can (must) get a licence from Teddington Lock which is manned 24/7.
BUT nowadays you must produce an insurance certificate to cover you for TP risks and either a valid BSS certificate or declare that your vessel complies.

You didn't ask about bridge heights on the non tidal bit.

Declaring self complaint..??? Its a standard 2002 princess 45. It has a holding tank fitted...Are there any points to watch out for on that?

Bridge hieghts on upper thames - yes, did several years up around Marlow on a different boat so aware of that issue.. we wont go that far up in one weekend...

Any recommmendations for moorings just past richmond - given our draft (1.1m) and the fact that the props (which are blimmin expensive) are on shafts and exposed...?

LOA x beam = 13.92 x 4.27 = 59.43
24hrs = £49.50
Fri/sat/sun = £148.5

For the privilege of 1 weekend on the thames. Plus marina fees etc etc..

Even with fuel to Ramsgate it may be cheaper to turn left than right O-:

A day's licence runs from midnight to midnight, so if you organise the time of entry you can get two days use.

You don't have to pay for moorings on the River, there are plenty of free moorings EA and "informal" even at popular sites they only cost a fiver or so.

You'd have to find a way of not entering TL until after midnight and there's no free mooring (?) below TL - remember that the river is part tidal between Richmond and Teddington. You could anchor......
 
If you arrived sat am ( early ) and left sunday pm ( late ) you could do it for the cost of a one day licence .

When you buy a one day , you get the second day free. So £49.50.

Nowhere to overnight below Teddington , unless you try Teddington Harbour ( 0208 977 9978 ) which is just below the lock. AFAIK moorings are about £20 a night , with electric.

Overnight there if you are scared of the charges on friday night , come through Sat AM and do it all for the cost of a one day licence ( back through on Sunday , overnight at Teddington Harbour again ).

Hi,Martin I have a problem with this pricing regime and all.
If I want to go up through my lock at Allington most probably just on a whim type weekend jaunt it is cheaper for me to buy a weeks pass than for 2/3 days.A 48 hour special price would certainly encourage me to pop up more often than we do as £38 quid or whatever for basically an overnighter is off putting.
Your price up there is bit scarystill and its cheaper to have 3 days in ST Kats.

We do have a '48hr special' , i mentioned it in the post above ...

It would still only get you an 'overnighter' though. Arrive 0001 Sat AM , Leave 2359 Sun PM , is as near as you get to 48 hours. All in theory of course.

Plus , the working out is wrong on Martins post. 3 days costs you the price of two days ( because you get one free ) , i don't have the figures to hand , but if he has worked out £49.50 a day , the overall cost will be £99.00 , not £148.50.

Hi thanks for the info..good to know there is a free day option. However, I am normally tucked up in bed by 10;)..can't see me waiting till 12 before going through...and then where would I moor at that time. So not an option for me ...nope I think it's a no goer this time...I will spend the 100 pounds and the time waiting for the tide/air gap at hammersmith and head for the coast...thanks for the info :-)
 
Depth will be ok but dont think you will make as far as Windsor as Old Windsor lock cut bridge is only 4.3 metres. If you can get under it then Windsor bridge will be a problem as its arched and is 4 metres.

Let us know how you get on as we crossed the P45 of our list due the the airdraft being too high.

I'm a bit confused by the licencing restrictions, I have a 60hp RIB, but I do have lights on the A-Frame, presumably I can pay the x per metre for a 5.5m RIB and I have fully comp insurance for more than the required amount, but I'm a bit confused by the certification bit, can anyone advise?
