Anyone been to St.Kats lately? We are thinking of going for a week in the next month or so, but I keep hearing stories about the place getting run down, pontoons being removed and not replaced, loos not up to much, and inferences that the owners of the site are not interested in running a marina and that therefore the place does not have a long-term future.
Is this all nonsense? What does the place seem like at the moment?

Sorry, don't know the answers to the questions you raised but we would like to get to St. Kats before the season is over too. We have'nt been before and would love to tag along. We are based on the River Orwell. Would you like company? We are free 26th September -Oct 9th. PM me if you would like to discuss further.

We went to St Katherines last year and it was appalling.
The staff are indolent. We were made to wait outside and then they forgot we were still waiting. The pontoons are green and slippery when wet. There are rats as big as dogs, the rubbish is not cleared away till the early hours and they trundle the carts along the pontoons and wake you up as they dont seem to care how much noise they make.
We were charged just over 100 pounds for 2 nights(for a 50 footer) and they moaned because we didnt give them 3 hours notice before we left? Very noisey as there are clubs and bars there.

Limehouse basin is a far better option in my veiw. just down river, clean and tidy, staff very helpful,Quiet.and the Cruising Association is based there too. They charged 35.00 for2 nights.

Limehouse is ok, but very much in the middle of nowhere and quite scary after dark. We're based in St Kats at the moment, and it's certainly improved from last year - much depends on what dock you're in. The east dock has pretty reasonable facilities, is for the most part very quiet and we've only seen swans, herons, a shoal of enormous carp and a couple of foxes - no rats to date.

The staff are fine (and unfailingly helpful) once you get used to them!

Spent 5 days there from August B/H and it was getting pretty full (Medway navy invaded), but absolutely brilliant, and good value at ~ £125 (for 5 to 7 days). There was an occasional problem at busy times with the shower drains overflowing, and excess water causing puddles to toilet area, but no big deal. Staff helpful, East dock amazingly quiet. Much to visit in walking disatance, and Waitrose 200 yds from boat. My teenage daughters rate it as best ever holiday, and want revisit next hear (doh - London this year was a warm-up for Holland next year).

Why not consider south dock? fairly quiet and cheap.
If you want to get to town you can take the thames clippers ferry service which is quite civilised.
