I apologise in advance if this has been covered before, however I can not find an answer to my query.....

I intend leaving the UK in April in my 45 Sea Ray Sundancer, with the boat utimately being based in Greece.

I will continue to reside in the UK, and hope to spend 6 - 8 weeks on the boat annually, usually in trips of one week at a time, hopefully in more sun than we have enjoyed here.

Do I need SSR Part 1 or Part 3.

What are the advantages of either?

Yes but Part 1 proves ownership, which might be useful out there.

Possibly if you want to sell it out there but I would get the basic SSR just to keep the authorities happy.

The SSR does everything you need apart from providing evidence of title and the ability to register financial charges against the boat. It is fully accepted as evidence that your boat is UK registered which is the only important issue when in "foreign" waters.

In Greece you are normally asked for the SSR, Bill of Sale (which is the actual proof of title) and insurance with a Greek translation provided free by your insurer.There is also merit in having an ICC or RYA certificate as evidence of competence. This is formally required but rarely asked for. Evidence of VAT payment is also formally required in all EU countries but again rarely asked for as proof of UK registration is enough normally to show that VAT is not an issue for the Greek authorities. When you first arrive in Greece you need to buy a DEKRA which is a cruising log that all boats have to carry. Big bit of paper with lots of stamps which in theory you need to get stamped whenever you enter a port with a Port Police office, but the procedure is often ignored!

Essentially the same documents are required for trouble free passage through all countries on the way to Greece. For full information and background as to why you need the documentation contact the RYA.
