I've had this SSR number for a couple a couple of years, but been too nervous to apply paint to brush to boat. Anyone got any good ideas for doing it neatly and cheaply?

PS: And if anyone suggests I try PBO, perhaps they could tell me what Shufflebum is for now that the Lounge is open.

go to any firm advertising vinyl stick-on boat names and ask them for standard-size SSR numbers in the colour of your choice. There is a supplier who goes to all the boat jumbles and does them while you shop.

Just go to the nearest signwriters in the yellow pages. They'll cut them out of vinyl - tell them it's for a boat, and they'll use the uv resistant stuff for outdoor use. About £5

SSR - Stick-on vinyl letters

We did it for our Irish trip last year. Stick on letters on an acrilic plate, tie-wrapped to the pushpit. Easily seen, but also easily removed if you suddenly don't want to play (like if they introduce light dues). Sticking vinyl letters straight on the hull is OK, but what if you want to remove them?

I tend to answer questions I know the answer to, or can fill in the details very quickly. I typically don't answer questions on engines, engineering, wooden boats or plumbing, etc etc etc as on these I know nothing, and there are many others to contribute.

I like computers, internet, trivia, scientific --- and arguing about what conditions you can safely take fast powerboats out in! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
