SSB for weather forecasting

i agree. but in this respect there not consistent, i heard the controler one evening telling someone to use someone elses call. and aweek later there was a Dutch boat reterning from the red sea and still in the red sea, someone called in to say he was useing a call hed made up--no one would talk to him!!! as i was diving and had mornings free i called him to give him what ever help i could and chat . sadly hed had enough The UK net really dose mess it up, a few days ago i switched my rig on and heard the same people saying the same thing as last year hello bill im ok the wxs -- is xx om frequency then a woman who was in --- cant remember there name just now but alwas the same to or three one lives in southern spain on boat cemented in the other in gib and athird in a flat in central Spain----Some years ago was another controler G3--- he was really great but since he haded it over its rubbish Oh well perhaps someone else might like to start a net???

david jones' operation, now i believe run by his widow, is on 8104 mhz usb. local time 0830. it follows the caribbean safety net which starts at 0730 local time. the web site is http://www.caribwx.com it is a paid service but non-subscribers can listen in and hear forecasts given to others nearby. worth joining if you plan something more complex than island-hopping.

herb is a great source of weather information for atlantic passages. listen in a few times before you join up. his callsign is 'southbound 2'.

if you are following a well-travelled route it's often enough to just listen in for other boats in your area. there is no fee but he appreciates a contribution to charity. to get the best from him, there are two simple rules: don't question his advice and don't refer to other sources of weather info. both of these p*** him off big time.

Trudy is still around but last time I went across she had stopped doing weather - I also stopped checking in with her as she worked out my ham call sign Cyprus ID was a phony... She was nice about it but told me not to call any more
