SSB advice

Does anyone out there have a Yaesu SSB?
I have seen a Yaesu RT840 for sale at 400 pounds (12 months old but as new).
I am completely new to HF radios so any advice would be most welcome.

FT840 , Ham band only transmit with a general coverage receiver. requires the optional external ATU.
New price £499 plus £3 carrage.

I guess if I am going to but that model the extra 99 pounds is worth spending for a new one with guarantee.
