Some of you might have read my other post on problems with my Silva S15 VHF. Most of them seem to have cleared now, but I'm left with the squelch button on the keypad not working when the set has warmed-up (OK on start-up). So this means I can't easily change the squelch settings when in use without switching the VHF off for a while.

Now should this actually bother me?? I can't really remember how much (if ever) I actually adjust the squelch settings? It's just one of those things most of us just do without thinking.

Thoughts...

I turn our up (or maybe you call it down) in fine weather when we get a lot of weaker distant stations breaking in. Squelching up (or down!) a bit means you only hear the local ones.

I normaly alter / check the squelch each time I turn my main VHF on. This also applies to the hand held. I adjust the squelch if it has been to quiet for a long period, but then I do sail around the western Solent !!
