G'day one & all,

I have an Anderson 16 (not self tailer) that works ok but noticed "screetch / squeal" amongst the ratchet sound i think it was only present when spun fast with genoa sheet - Just been out to boat to investigate & all looks complete & unbroken or worn all well lubed etc.
I applied a little more grease to bearings & barrel & possibly improved it but can still achieve similar sound amongst what is generally a clean healthy clicking ratchety sound.

Any ideas before i go out to boat again - not really time to take apart & clean before weekend - ( dont want to miss this 1 ) ?

Also how do the bearings detatch - main housing held on with circlip - only screw within housing holds down bottom main pawl (If thats correct word?)

Thanks as ever

It could easily be the actual rope/sheet that you are winding in that is causing the squeal.
Was this squeal only heard when winding in and the rope was under tension?

Generally the idea is to dismantle, totally cleanse, lightly grease the bearings, a drop of oil on each pawl and spring then reassemble.

Any more questions just ask.. Just don't lose parts or rest them on kitchen towel (that might blow away in a breeze!)
