Square Mile cancellation charges

I was with SquareMile before they were "not invited to renew their contract" with Plymouth Yacht Haven. I was part way through a 12 month contract - but since they effectively broke the terms of that contract themselves by nolonger being able to provide me with the service I was paying for, the contcart was null and void and I stopped paying on that basis. No problems, no come back.

I have to say that their replacement - OceanWave, is not much better - yes it is nearly always available, but the speed is more often than not, less that a poor dial-up connection. Download speeds of 5 kbps are not uncommon. On my very poor 512K ADSL line at home I get a consistent 56kbps download speed.

I'm so fed up with WiFi providers that I'm installing a fixed phone line to my boat and will end up with a 2Mb ADSL connection all to myself. Yes its far more expensive, but at least I get something I can use.

I am a square mile user and find the customer service to be poor, i work in I.T and find their network very slow with bottlencks also. But who else is offering me a wifi connection on my boat ? I use the wifi for work, weather info etc etc. I could just not bother with PC on board but then i lose out on so much info / entertainment

Bring on some competition to SM that might improve things...

T-Mobile Web n Walk...... If your laptop or PDA can do HSPDA, I think you can get over 1Mb, if not, 384Kbps all to yourself.

Square Mile now sending out 'reminders' asking for payment to folk, despite their being thrown out of Premier for cr*p servce and an even worse approach to dealing with complaints...
 
I left after my 6 month free trial, the system was down for the whole time I tried. I did not take it on, seems like I made a good decision. I asked for a further free period once they had claimed to have fixed it, but was told to use the 20p per minute pay-as-you-go service, no effin chance, I will stick with my mobile for now.

Have you guys considered watchdog, they like stories like this, especially as they have lots of footage from the start, dragons den. It may go one of two ways, kill it or force them to invest in a better backbone.
 
Good idea... But with my travel plans, time may be lacking. Anyone care to take up the cudgel?

I have been forwarded this thread by one of our marinas and would like to let you all know that we are working as hard as we can to get a service which is reliable and effeicent. We are working closely with a company called wifi spark, which i noticed some of you have dealt with before and we are extremely happy. We are looking to have 100% customer satisfaction as soon as possible.

With regards to Plymouth this was one of our first installs and as far as yacht havens and ourselves we believe this is working fine. We have however discovered that the adsl there is low 1mb so now looking to increase this to 8mb depending on the exchange.

As this topic started off to do with charges i would just like to finish by saying that our payment plan does not work on a contract so there are no cancellation fees etc.

So if you're related with Wifispark, can I use my wifispark login details with your service?

It would be great if one login worked in both MDL and Premier marinas....

Hi rickp,

We are currently talking to MDL to arrange a roaming agreement as far as i am aware MDL have a seperate network to the rest of the WIFI Spark Network.

But We are waiting for the network to settle down and see how our users roaming is at the moment.

So i will keep you all updated and let you know how it goes.
