Squadron 56 on ebay

Listing ended at 95k, seems an absolute bargain to me.

Had a look at the recent survey, £20000 to fix various, and many issues, seemed on the conservative side to me,
Mainly due to recent neglect.
Add that to winning bid price, gives you a good boat, probably about what it's worth for this type of boat in this market, not an absolute bargain, and only two bids,/bidders, says it all really.
Shame, I did think I would go for this one, until I read the survey...

can you post the salient points of the survey snagging list please?

From eBay :-

I have copied the conclusions page of the recent Survey for those requesting further information. The preheaters on the engines are not functioning correctly and there a number of items listed in the very comprehensive survey which need servicing, replacing or attention. The one damaged propeller refers to pitting which could cause vibrations. The annodes are showing wear at about 40%.

The survey is some 20 pages in length and there are no surprises. The cost of all the works suggested by the survey, even down to the screen jets needing attention, has been suggested by the engineer at around £20k a full copy of this report is available and I will need an email or fax address/number to send it as I can't copy it to this posting.

Conclusions:-

This craft was found to be in a good and sound condition but appeared to have lacked recent maintenance. The underwater area was free from any osmotic blistering or structural damage but the gelcoat around the bow thruster apertures was cracked and required some attention. The internal bonding’s where inspection was possible were sound and intact.

The hull sides and superstructure were in good order and free from any major damage.

The defects found at this time were mainly of a cosmetic or service nature apart from the damaged propeller, broken transom shower and screen washers, faulty lights and catches, seized/corroded seadocks, missing gas rams, split toilet seacock hose and contaminated fuel. If the above recommendations are carried out, the craft should continue to give good service.

Any liability is to the above client only and not to any future holder of this survey report and this report is a statement of fact ascertained at this time of the survey.

Dunno how much the pre-heaters would cost to fix but the other items surely don't come to £20k?

Engineers report states, no sea trial could be conducted due to the state of the engine room and machinery, and the likely possibility of breakdown under load.
Estimates to get engines and engine room up to scratch he states will be in excess of £20000
Never mind the rest of the issues, which will be time consuming, and if done professionally, very expensive.
Excellent comprehensive survey by Paul Homer, so whoever bought this will be going into it with their eyes open.
Braver man than me....

That's not entirely consistent with the excerpt on the eBay add is it.

Selling via eBay is entirely reliant upon the seller being entirely open and honest and I'm not convinced the seller was in this case (only posting the survey after initial bids had been made).

What can't be known though is whether or not those bidders had already asked for, and received, a copy of the survey before bidding. I can't believe anyone would bid 85k or 95k on a boat without having some dialogue with the seller first.

I wonder what the purpose of making the listing private was? (ie where the bidders identities are hidden)

Just for the record, Drumbeat was a Squadron 59.
I did not change the name and had no issues with the boat - just decided to go for a semi-displacment boat.
Tarquin could not sell the boat in a year - I sold her in a month.

"The other owner might be Gludy and iirc all his boat troubles related to boats after his Sq56/9, the goodship Drumbeat. He must rue the day he ever sold Drumbeat...

Sounds a great adventure, but your WiFi signal is very slow. If it's taken 2 years to send the reply, it's worse than "dial up" :D

LOL, worse also than carrier pigeons, I reckon! :D
Regardless, glad to hear that P is enjoying Suliere and exploring the globe! :encouragement:
