Just back from the first shakedown of the spring and a lovely trip up the Fal. Only ever been into Falmouth before and the trip up river was a delight. Note to self, visit again in the Autumn.

Never been up the Fal as always turn left at the entrance, but so may people recommend this detour that I think I'll copy your diary note!

what about turning right into st mawes as that's a good anchorage and a non profit port who seem to adot that ethos

There certainly is. V relaxed and almost like going back in time, most places you can’t see any lights or hear anything but birds and foxes.

Don't believe any of it - it's a horrible place, dangerous tides and currents, loadsa noise, all manner of horrors. Best to avoid it and leave it to us locals to put up with :)

By the way, they charge to anchor at St Mawes.

Ive been anchoring for years in St Mawes and never been charged. I think Ive been lucky but anchoring just inside Carricknath Point (still inside harbour limits) may have helped me avoid such charges.
