Our sprayhood is now looking very tired and faded (blue with white streaks!) although mechanically it still seems to be sound. Does anyone know of a successful repaint/respray option to avoid full replacement for a bit longer? It's one of the older generation materials which is fairly stiff and a bit plasticy rather than soft and pliant like the newer ones.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks
Rob

I am in exactly the same position, but I inherited the sprayhood along with the frame (cast-off from a boat being treated to new canvas work).
I was going to try it with an aerosol paint from Halfords which is used for vinyl stuff, dashboards and the like. There's a red which looks close to the colour.
If it cracks up after a season there's no loss.
I'm going to do it in the next couple of days and will report back.

You can buy stuff from camping shops for restoring canvas colour. There are probably different types for acrylics and canvas. No good me giving you names as I will be hopelessly out of date.

Have a chat with C&J we have found them very helpful

I couldn't agree more. I am on my second cj marine sprayhood made for consecutive boats. Polite service, the right price doubled up with meeting the deadlines - what else do you want from a supplier? And I've never even met them!

I have intentions when my present spray hood is getting near the repalcement stage to use it as a mould, cover it with glassfibre matting and fibreglass resin the whole thing. Thus producing a fibre glass hard-top. I am still thinking this through, but it seems as though it would work. Don't know what to do about the clear panels, but this is only a minor detail. Probably the whole job would end up at twice the cost of the conventional replacement one. I must do some costings on this sometime.
