I find it cleaned up pretty well with a power washer but you probably need to re-waterproof it afterwards anyway. Our local sailloft can sew in new window - quite nice to see where you are going!

For the window I was told by a manufacturer to use only clean water, never detergent, on the clear PVC as it would turn cloudy. It was still good after 10 years when I sold it with the boat.

As for shiny PVC, the inflatable boat bits people who are always at the boat show could sell you a suitable paint if yours needs a bit of a 'birthday'.

Yes I cleaned mine with a pressure washer, it came up great, clear windows were shot anyway so wasent too worried about them.
BTW can anyone recommend someone good to replace those sprayhood windows for me, in the Glasgow Inverclyde area?
Cheers, Eamonn.

Hi Eamonn
I thought i had been forgotten.
The hood was scrubbed in the bath and is now in the washing machine with non-bio seven mins to go. fingers crossed.
My good lady is spot on with the sowing machine i will let you know the out come. being a kirky boy i got to keep it cheap.
But i do need a supplier of the clear vinyl help please

See your local camping shop. Good ones will have tent materials (including the clear plastic for windows) for sale off the roll. Failing that, look in yellow pages for tent makers/ repairers.

Full cycle 30C wash in auto wash machine ..... came up a treat. Even added a touch of Softener !!

In fact I did mainsail cover, dodgers and sprayhood ... next is planned to do sails ....

Eamon

Nearest to you would be Saturn Sails

My sprayhood was made by Owen Sails who I think have an office at 43 Caledonia Crescent, Gourock. I think the Owen made sparayhood is of better quality than the Saturn ones I've seen.

Both will refurbish.

Regards

Donald

Addding softener is a no-no if you then want to re-proof after wash.
Best stuff is Nik Wax techwash,as it leaves no residues(a tad pricey though).
If you don't want to re-proof then it doesn't matter, but softener will increase the wetting of the fabric in use.

Out of washing machine no softner used 40c full wash the out come better than expected. But still some blackish patches in the red hood. Is this as good as it gets. I did think about using a tan dye to mute the patches. I am painting the non slip area of the deck, Colour not sorted yet she has a navy blue hull so red spray hood to tan will work better. any comments.

I can only comment on the washing, colour coding and taste are not my forte.
The still black bits might respond to a bit of oxy action bleach but there is a risk that some colour will go as well, test on a seam or corner.
Fabrics that have been weathered or washed do not usually take redying satisfactorily.

Re-proofing didn\'t last prev.

This is first time I've washed it m'self .... left it to repairers before. Re-proofing was IMHO a waste of time before ....

Seeing how easy the wash has been - IMHO - when mould etc. starts again - into machine.

Having gone through tent / hood mould protector solutions and all sorts before ...

Anyway the softener comment was a bit of a joke and the amount in was tiny - basically what was left in machine from previous wash !!

Thank you all for your comments, I have not tried the bleach yet. We have a large tent maker in our area so that looks good for the vinyl. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As Donald suggested, Owen Sails or Saturn will do the job, I do not have any experience of them. I saw the proprietor of JessSails fitting one in Renfrew a few years ago. She was based in Ardrossan. Willie Leitch of Tarbert will do a good job, but you may need to be patient!

Re: sprayhood cleaning ..... bleach

Bleach will rot the stitching .... so you'll have a nice hood that will slowly come apart at the seams.

I will be very carefull with the oxy action bleach and keep away from the stitching. If all else fails i will purchase a new hood. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Good tip if returning a sprayhood to a sailmaker is to leave the duff window in. They prefer this as it makes measurment easier. Owen Sails at Port Edgar did mine
