Having finally grabbed a window in between the weather and lockdowns last week, Pagan Lady is now back in Brightlingsea.

So, the fun of tidying her up and getting her sorted for the upcoming season starts.

The first and most pressing item of concern is the sprayhood...to say that it has 'seen better days' is probably an understatement.

Any recommendations for sprayhood manufacturers on the East Coast from our illustrious team?

Elite Yacht Covers - not the cheapest I’d imagine but you pay for what you get - recently had a new spray hood/stack pack/ cockpit dodgers made by them and very happy.

Do you know Mike...I keep forgetting about Mark!

Bloody silly as he made a new headsail for my old Cobra 850 and he mentioned at the time that he could have done the Sprayhood for me as well...I had however given that job to the late and much missed 'Mushy' who did an excellent job!

I will give him a shout as she will be in Gary's yard just around the corner from Marks loft!

Another vote for Mark Self ... as said he is on your doorstep..
Go past he park and ride towards Morgans and second on the left .. If he is in, he flies a flag on the pole next to the gate.. that and the van outside.

I had a sprayhood made by a well known East Coast cover maker and the quality was alarmingly poor. Stitching pinched the windows and the whole thing hung on the frame loose and floppy. (puddles appearing on the roof)The yacht was a walk away in a marina so they could make patterns etc. The whole job took months to boot.

I complained and was told it was simply the best they could do with my set-up, that I had a non standard boat etc. I got so much resistance to my complaint that I just accepted it put the boat into Ipswich Haven For the Winter

Once there I walked the pontoons to check out each and every sprayhood - none were as baggy and floppy as my embarrassment. The best one was tight as a drum, looked pretty non-standard as it was on a steel ketch, so I jotted down the maker‘s name stitched on the side: James Roffe 07815 763377.

He assured me he could make a first class Spray hood like the one I saw and indeed he did, inside a week! Not only that it cost me half of what the well knowN maker charged me. He is a one man band working out of tollesbury but is happy to travel to measure up etc.

Feel free to ignore my opinion of course but I think it would be right to warn us who that was when service is that bad. Its perfectly legitimate and not legally risky to describe your experience with a company and name them.
