Spray Hoods

I looked at a Macwester Seaforth at Wolverstone, which is still for sale there. The cockpit cover looked badly made/fitted to me so I made a point of looking to see who had made it. It was Sail and Cover. Go and look at it and judge for yourself. It is on the right as you walk from the sales office up river.

My canvas work was done by done by Dolphin, touch and bargepole come to mind.
Unless they have improved greatly in the mean time.

Dolphin (Paul) made a new sprayhood for us 3 years ago.
Was pleased with it - well made - but... over the past year the windows started going all opaque (foggy).
Was rather miffed, but after questions on the PBO forum and talking to other sail makers learned that this can sometimes happen.
Anyway, last year Guapa lived at Fox's and it seems people from Dolphin visit Fox's on a regular basis.
Last October I got an unsolicited e-mail from Paul: 'I noticed that your sprayhood windows have gone foggy. We had a bad lot a while ago, and yours may have been one of them. We would like to offer you a replacement free of charge'.
Needless to say, I took them up on their offer. Sprayhood back on the boat and looking better than ever.
This is, IMO, customer service above and beyond.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
Looking to replace the wheel and binnacle cover some time this year. Dolphin will get my business.

Which is why I put my last comment in.

Always difficult to judge a company on only one transaction, but my canvas is ****, from 6 years ago, (before I bought it).

S and C repaired my spray hood two years ago and did a good job... At a very good price which included taking it off the frame and replacing it.

They did me a new binnacle cover and stackpac last year. Quality seems fine and they look good.

No issues.

I think the key to getting really good fitting canvaswork is to go to the company who supplied to the builders. They will have the original patterns which fit as the designer intended. If the original quality was not as high as it could have been, most likely down to a price, then just ask for a better quality of product.

That said, I've used S&C for repairs and a new stackpack and was pleased with the work. Nice people to deal with too.

You mean Parker & Kay. I had new stackpack from them in 2009, still looks like new, very good quality and value for what you get.

Six years ago asked them to repair a torn genoa UV strip.
Got it back several weeks after the agreed due date - colour of the patch didn't match and the repair lasted all of 3 months.
Not been back since.

Looks like maybe they have cleaned up their act.

I have used them for a lot of work, (Dodgers, sprayhood and some custom oddments) always helpful and good quality, no complaints about durability. Prices may be higher then elsewhere, but they are local as we are Woolverstone based.
