I noticed that my spray hood has a 8-10mm split in the plastic window panel, this panel is horizontal and above the cabin sliding hatch so it needs fixing asap. The spray hood is about 2/3 years old and the plastic is in good condition, but when I leave the boat I need to fold the spray hood down.
I have a piece of this plastic window material so can I stick or melt on a small patch ? and if I can stick it what glue do I use?
Thanks for any help.

Plastic window repair.

Hi Pete,
Annoying that!
Would you have enough plastic window material to make a new section?
If so you could sew on the new over the old and then (very carefully) cut away the old stuff.
Somebody else will come along with the glue solution, I don't know which glue to suggest, expect kids LILO repair outfits contain something similar.
Best replace the panel if you can get enough material?

Good sailing and boating to all!

Hi Paul
It is rather a large panel to replace for such a small cut if all else fails I will stick on a bit of clear silicone as a temporary bodge until the end of the season. I have replaced a similar panel on the old hood before but only when the plastic was well past its best.

You could try Poly Tunnel repair tape (google) for such a small tear. I repaired a small rip with this stuff at the end of last season so don't know yet how well it's lasted.

repaired mine with some clear spinnaker repair tape from Force 4.

Only issue was making sure that you support the inside while taping from the outside as otherwise you get a wrinkly mess.

You can repair the window with window fabric. You need either a venture tape or a 3m made tape that will cure and hold the patch in place. It is important when applying this to keep the panel flat and make sure it is clean and dry when you apply the patch. If you do not have the tape i can send you some (it will save you money as you wont have to buy a full roll). Chris
