Spray Hood/Cockpit cover

Re: cockpit cover

Thanks! I am going to do that,i had thought of looking for a discount ont the 126, but your note hear has comfirmed that the 152 is the one to go for

Yes when i had posted i began thinking of all the folkboats with different coachroofs cabins. I wonder what the price will be? In the south of France i heard is about £250/300? Im trying to get an idea that i can judge what i ought to pay.a lot of cover/sail makers are one person and two helper businesses so prices can vary widly

Now im going to Denmark Sweden Finland slowly! thats area where the Folkboat comes from. Im hopeing that the GRP IF, will have one, and it will fit my wooden one?? its not a low price area up there?

In Denmark i heard they still build wooden FBs I cant imagin why more dont have a spray hood? As well as the reefing lines lead bact to the cockpit--there is a thread about that as well!

Re: cockpit cover

Getting back, (briefly), to the Adnams at The Cherry Tree, I can report a very pleasant meeting of forum correspondents there earlier this evening. Some enjoyable yarns. To be repeated soon - maybe as soon as tomorrow!

Re: cockpit cover

Hi there. Thanks to the forum members I now have a few phone numbers and contact addresses for spray hoods and cockpit cover manufacturers. I'd be quite happy to keep you up to date with how the project progresses, and would also be happy to send photos of the finished article. Hoi Lung has a raised dog-house (I still bang my head a lot !) - does your FB have the standard coach-roof?

Re: cockpit cover

Yes! shes quite standard, having been built in 1946.

Im really hopeing that when i get to the Baltic ill find either an "off the shelf" spray hood (not optamistic) or at least be able to have one made.

Sweden is afterall the birthplace of the Folkboat!

I am really interested in the outcome of your searching. And really look forward to more details your impressions and The costs!!

Re: cockpit cover

I saw Hoilungs's coachroof at the weekend - the doghouse is super - not too high like some, but high enough to create a very comfortable seating area indeed in the aft part of the saloon, and beautifully constructed.

Lots of exciting things going on aboard - as well as rewiring, a really excellent and professional instrument panel custom made, including engine ignition and rev counter has been fitted, with the ignition and VHF operable without going below. Lots of other clever ideas and detail being worked on. She'll be a very fine craft on her relaunch.

Because of the coachroof, she will obviously have a quite different design of sprayhood to Trouville's, at a different cost.

Spray Hood & Cockpit cover; the final chapter

Nick Mussett has completed the Spray Hood and Cockpit cover for Hoi Lung, and I'm delighted with the results. The workmanship is superb, and was completed to time and under budget. I wish I could say that about the rest of the Project! Many thanks to all forumites who contributed to my search, and in particular to Francis_Fletcher who put me on to Nick in the first place.

Cheers all,

T.

Re: Spray Hood & Cockpit cover; the final chapter

That's very kind Tim.

I saw Hoilung in Larkman's yard yesterday, looking resplendent with her smart new canvas, and many more new items besides. A number of cunning additions have been designed and made, including an outside instrument panel, and a superb inside instrument panel on the bulkhead at the aft end of the cabin, featuring the VHF mic and ignition key accessible from the cockpit, as well as dedicated stowage for the almanac and East Coast Rivers. The latest clever idea is a s/s mainsheet traveller incorporating the ends of the split backstay. Where the backstays join a few feet above deck level there is a magnificent stainless contraption, though quite modest in size, which bears the navtex and GPS aerials, and the sternlight. It is an excellent idea from a safety point of view to raise the sternlight above deck level, and normally impossible to achieve without a pushpit. You'll have to get a photo of it up on the web for everyone to see.

Looking good Hoilung, all you need to do now is add water!
