Is Spotless Stainless at £24.99 for 450ml compared to Bar Keeper's Friend at £2.99 for 500ml that much better? Both contain oxalic acid (perhaps at different concentrations? - I can't find exact details).

I am very happy with BKF, wouldn't pay the extra. Been using it for 25+ years. Good for cleaning top sides as well as stainless steel.

SWMBO loves Spotless Stainless. Easy to apply. Easy to wash off. Gets into the threads of the guard rail screws with ease. One bottle has lasted about 4 seasons so far.

Worth the money IMHO

Both are awful - Peel Polish (Flitz) on a wet rag after a boat wash down. It if it good for all the superyachts......

I keep a bottle of Spotless Stainless on board. It works well, but is a bit pricey.

I recently bought a litre bottle of Super Stainless (made in Northern Ireland) for much less than I paid for the much smaller bottle of Spotless. It smells like it's Sulphuric Acid based, so as a caution, I tried it on some 'scrap' bits of stainless, in case it 'etched' the metal. I left it overnight (much longer than recommended) without any etching. I've since used it on the on-board fittings & it works just the same as Spotless.

Thread Drift: I decided to try the Barnacle Grease on the prop this year, but balked at £29.50+ postage. Instead, I bought a 500ml tub of Osculati Yachticon Barnacle Grease from SVB (Bremen) for €13.95 + €6.95 shipping.

As a starting point I think I'll try BKF on one side and Cif + Oxalic on the other (as the cheapest options) and see how they compare in the short and long term. Thanks for the various suggestions.

Any comments on Autoglym Wheel Cleaner? The hydrochloric acid based version. The owner of the motorboat next to me swears by it for cleaning stainless and the most persistent hull stains?
