Actually, I expected this to be an easy one.
But in another thread Poweryacht (who is one of our best boat spotters) couldn't identify her, so here goes.
And just to complete the pilothouse, I'll throw in also a pic of the charting table! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nah. Way too old technology on the bridge surely. CRT screens, dot matrix printers. Too much 'kit' about. Military?

I did a search on b380 but the only thing of any sense is a Soviet Submarine and methinks there's no chance that this is a sub! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Its meant to take a hammering, sprung seats and grab rails everywhere.

Could it be a WIG vehicle?

[/ QUOTE ]Good guesses.
Not actually a military vessel, but built from a shipyard with strong military heritage, using some top military technologies (for that time).
And definitely meant to take a hammering: she was built to withstand 2g forces!...

PS: for race boat fans, who might think that 2g is not that much, does that sound more impressive if referred to a 200'+ vessel? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Looking at the technology we are somewhere in the latter half of the 1980s ... probably originating from the other ie of the Atlantic from the look of that telephone.

We have a winner!

Well, I knew you would have recognised her at the end!
Was the 200'+ that gave it away? Actually 222', for sake of accuracy...

Re: We have a winner!

actually yesterday with the photos I knew I saw her somewhere, I was a big fan of Destriero have some posters and article of the time...
then you and PG55 handed the recipe without actually saying the name of the plate /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: We have a winner!

Yup, I didn't mention it before 'cause it would have made things too easy, but the first guess of PG55 definitely deserves an honorable mention.
Funny though how Virgin is the first name most people remember when thinking of the Blue Riband.
Branson must have been a top marketing guy indeed, considering that all he achieved was a sunk boat and another one whose record was invalid because she had to be refueled. Same as Gentry Eagle just a few years later, actually.
Only Hoverspeed GB managed to grab the record, but just on Eastbound crossing.
So, Destriero actually grabbed the latter from Hoverspeed GB, but the combined E+W bound crossing from the SS United States, after no less than 30 years!
