Spooky Coinicidence?

Louise (the missis) and I got back from West early today so decided to go for a walk down the bay. We went to Cardiff yacht club first and then wandered down towards the locks on the Penarth side, looking at the boats on the moorings and discussing what we liked and what we didn't. THen she says, pointing out to a boat on the moorings ' That's a nice boat, that Banjo over there.

She couldn't work out why I was laughing so much, when she had picked out the boat of one of the people I've talked to here!

When I showed her the forum when we got back, she was gobsmacked.

Now, is that spooky, or what?
 
Sailed from Portishead to Cardiff on Wednesday with Graham on 'Banjo'. First time I have sailed on a Coronado and for her length she is really spacious. I saw one for sale in Italy last year which now I have sailed on Banjo I wish I'd bought. A really good boat from my short experience of Coromandels.
 
Would you have sailed her back to the UK, or kept her in the med and sailed out there?

Our first and only sailing trip to date was from Crotone in the South across to the Greek islands, Corfu, paxos and down to Levkas. It was with a guy who has sailed all over, and that's when teh little lightbulb went off for me and I thought, 'hey, I wouldn't mind learning how to do this'.

The lightbulb went off some days later with Louise. Not because she is blonde, but she was pretty ill with seasickness for the first couple of days.
 
The thinking then was to have something near an airport but we came to the conclusion that the answer was to have a 3 or 4 cabin catamaran either on the Spanish mainland or one of the islands. So we have now settled for a 22' trailer sailor in Portishead. Have a word with Graham and have a sail on Banjo if you can, sails like a dinghy and has loads of room. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Well, we found the whole Italy Greece thing magical. Stunning food, beautiful unspoilt islands, but it was Feb/March and I think it would be too hot and possibly overcrowded on some of those islands in the summer for us.

I have spoken with Graham, thanks, although if it sails like a dinghy, I expect to spend most of my time on the keel trying to right her. My laser needs a mast sized keel and a keel sized mast..................
 
Absolutely agree, July and August lend it to friends who are into sun. Personally think that you can have too much of a good thing when it comes to the sun.

Sails like adinghy was reference to the ease of going about, hope I don't see you hanging off the keel too often. My boat has a similar feel and I am so looking forward to getting her back in the water and hoisting my BCF burgee!
 
Aye, well, I just hope we get a better summer this year than last. It was so wet. People say, as divers, you shouldn't mind the rain, but it's so much nicer on boats in the sun and the warm (uk warm , that is), than the cold and the wet.

I'm struggling at the moment, boatwise. Louise wants to go and view some, but I'm staying put. I really want to spend this summer doing my courses and gaining some experience and start looking in the autumn. I know that If I start looking now I'll end up rushing into it. Even before the excellent advice I've been given here, I knew that was a bad idea.
 
Bought my boat in August last year, first sea going boat I've ever had but done lots of sailing previously in other peoples boats and chartered a lot. There are lots of boats for sale out there and you can spend a lot of time looking at all the different types,styles configurations etc. Waiting until autumn sounds like a good idea, waiting until mid winter may see you pick up a bargain and hopefully by then you will have more experience and be clearer in your own minds what you want and why.
 
Well the plan originally was to dinghy sail for a few years and then gradually move into cruising. Then, this year we thought, why wait? We've plenty of experience of the sea (and a healthy fear), understand a bit about tides and probably are a lot more capable than many who just buy a boat and go. What we don't have is sailing experience, so the sooner we start, the sooner we can start to build some.

I have to say, though, it is occupying my mind somewhat lately. I just can't wait to get out and try it. I'm really looking forward to our day skipper course in June. I'm just hoping that we don't come across a boat we really like at a good price this summer, if you know what I mean.....
