Just leant that one of only three places around these shores where a burial at sea can take place is just off the Needles!!!
So next time you are passing by, and the engines die, and the fog descends, and,...... what was that........????

I think they come out of Keyhaven and drop off between there and Alum Bay.

Problem is it is not very deep and unless weighted properly the contents can wash up on the beaches around the needles, which apparently goes down none too well with the swimmers & gives the kiddies nightmares etc etc.

The I O W coroner is trying to stop burials here because of this. Also loads of police time is wasted trying to ID the contents, etc etc etc.

The boxes & contents if prepared properly are supposed to be weighted down to the tune of around 1/4 ton, and ideally dropped off in deep water, but sometimes they do go wrong /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think about 9 miles off Newhaven is another spot.

Bit like at the end of Friday 13th (Part 1). Why do you think everyone anchors as far away as they do from the Needles lighthouse /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A friend on mine once looked into doing funerals at sea by applying for a license for the area off the Needles.
It all came to nothing but he was looking for a black boat that he could use as a sort of hearse - he wanted to install an organ on board as well so that he could perform the complete service.

I dont think he was very serious though.

They would end up back at Cowes when the tide turned! They actually take place on the spoil ground south of the Needles and then get washed up between Compton Bay and St Catherines Point.

How to do it here.

A black boat would be novel.

I had a blue hearse once. Only a few people commented on its colour. I only bought it 'cos it was cheap, and is the only vehicle I've ever made money on.

So, thinking about it, he probably wouldn't have needed a black boat, when he could use, say, a Targa 37 with a blue hull and a big pair of davits.

Can't they set their feet in concrete or something? That'd do it.

I hear that this guy is the best when it comes to burial at sea.
