Split charge diodes versus split charge relays

I got the impression that you were more interested in pushing VARs to a wider audience .

However if I had been starting from scratch to totally revamp the system then perhaps I would have followed your suggestions but it would be a lot of work as I would have ripped everything out rerouted and removed redundant cable etc

In my 45 years experience revamps never end up totally satisfactory

I don't push anything, just explain why 35 years ago I designed the VSR system, and the pros & cons, at the moment I am working on relay/MOSFET combination.

The first thing is do you have a system that does not work ?

The second question is what do you want to acheive ?

I don't (see post #31); it was Halcyon who suggested there are 2 starter batteries (see post #32).

Sorry, it was the OP saying, 1 start, 2 nav lights, start, 3 services, so one assumes he has two engines, two many years with motorboats.

I'm still trying to find out if the OP has a problem.

With you now on the compensating diode and Sterling regulator .. I think

Pro Split R looks like it would suit your system but if you already have the diode splitter. Isn't the simplest thing to just replace the compensating diode with a suitably rated one from an electronics component suppliers .
Yes totally agree and apart from guessing a rating as the Motorolla Ek 300 diode is no longer available it would still be there as a back up to the sterling regulator however would like to get rid of power loss across diodes now that there is a bit of kit on the market with which I could do a direct substitution
. Some pretty big currents belting through system when leaving an anchorage after several days sitting at anchor . Usage Price and quality of diesel available also a big consideration . Boat is a motor sailor and wind is always in the wrong direction .

Had a serious problem on one island a few years ago with diesel contaminated with gasolene residue and chip oil and other **** so very cautious about source and usage . Very keen on reliability back up and keep a lot of spares . Good job its a catamaran

So very tempted with the Sterling unit > He s pretty much on the ball and up front with devices to cover the latest issues

I wish I could say that about the diesel Bug killer additives . I have tried them all . Non flammable for air line transport
best method in that case is to regularly hand pick the **** from the bottom of the tank prevents it blocking the inlet pipe to the filters . Good opening for an innovator to provide an easy tank access port or even better with a swimming pool type algae vacuum system
