Spinnaker Jockey Pole

Has anybody hadd exeprience if using a jockey pole to stop the spinnaker guy from chaffing on the shrouds? A Dallimore sister ship to Roach uses one and I wonder whether I will too when I get the spinnkaer rig sorted. It all sounds rather complicated having two poles up at the same time.

Nope - sorry no experience of this. I think I'm going down the cruising chute route which means no poles!

I don't recall any probs provided the measurements are right. Unlike the main spi pole there's only a short downhaul.

A simpler solution is a snatch block at the base of the shrouds, and run the guy through this. Ideally the snatch block should be fastened to a length of rope, led through another block back to the cockpit. Have one each side, but remember that on the sheet it must fly loose, so when gybing the kite it is an extra string to remember. If you forget and have the sheet strapped down in this way the spinnaker will fly in an awful shape and you will go slower than expected.

It's a doddle using a Jockey pole, aka "Lester", one one boat I sailed.

Clip to the mast hook the sheave end on to the guy and push into position hold in place with a sail tie on the shroud. You may need to slack off the guy as there is a terrific amount of compression on the jockey pole.

Wouldn't be without mine. Apart from preventing chaffing, it allows much better control of the spinnaker pole when it's just on the forestay foil. Without it in decent winds the pole is either hard against the forestay or a couple of feet off.

Recommend it is filled with foam, though. Has a nasty habit of going overboard.

I think I would prefer a wooden one - match the already existing Spinny Pole.
