Spinnaker into Gennaker

This may be a dumb question, but can you use a spinnaker as a gennaker? Or could you have it recut by a sailmaker to act as one. The rational is that you could set it off a bowsprit and it wouldn't be as difficult to use. All opinions appreciated.
 
Short answer is no. A gennaker is assymetric and flattr a spinnaker is symmetric and fuller... The recutting would probably cost more than a new sail because of the labour invlved???
 
Well agreed the spin is the wrong shape unless the spin is so big that you can afford to cut it in half vertically so that the middle vertical line becomes the luff. Even then it may still be too full. olewill
