Spinnaker Cloth Thickness?

0.75 or 1.5? does it matter?

I have found a second-hand one the right size but its 1.5oz, is that too thick? We are talking about a 15m luff with a snuffer.

My thoughts where to hold out for a second hand lightweight one as it would set better, and we are not going to fly it in anything over say 13-15knts but I just got a price on a new one and they are saying 1.5oz

what do you think? how much does it matter?

1.5oz sounds rather too heavy for your intended use, I would have through either 0.75 or 0.9 would be more suitable.

thanks what I thought, but the new one, default quote was 1.5...seemed odd.

My S3 is 0.9oz (c. 90m2 which sounds about the same size as the OPs - I think)

Edit - However the boat weights 2.5 tonnes less than the OP's

I would buy the s/h spin. Less money and you may not actually like flying a spin. (I call mine the mad woman.) However spin cloth does not last forever. My original spin got too old in the cloth and started ripping frequently. The UVs had killed it making it kind of crinkly and stiff compared to the soft feel of new nylon. So hopefully the s/h one is OK. good luck olewill
