Had a handle break the other day - the first time it has happened.

Looked up the price of a new double clutch, which was £108! Then some Googling told me that all replacement parts are available. I hadn’t even considered that they might be repairable, as so little is able to be taken apart and repaired these days. The lovely people at Marinestore Wyatt’s sold me a new handle for £9 and I found a really helpful YouTube video from Spinlock, giving complete instructions on how to take it apart, replace parts and reassemble.

And it’s now repaired! A very simple story, perhaps, but just refreshing to find something that not only is built to be able to be taken apart and repaired, but where the parts are available and at a reasonable price. Made me happy, anyway.

No connection with Spinlock or Marinestore Wyatts, but “thanks chaps”.

I have two Spinlock XTS (triple clutches) yet to be mounted but I am sure I saw the video clip or else I took one apart and was surprised at how simple they are.

I'm not too sure where I should mount them in relation to the winch for the center cockpit yacht I am building. Would you approve of this set-up for both Port and Starboard halyard winches?

My boat has the earlier model and i wanted a twin to replace a single one. These are not now available but I managed to buy a broken one on ebay for pennies and put together what I wanted. Very simple.

Looks like there is a fair lead for all the ropes to the winch - but operation could be improved with a self tailing winch!

Yes I do have two ST Arco 44s (Hutton) for the Halyards but otherwise do you approve of their positioning?

And what do I do with all the rope: maybe provide a hook or bag beside the companionway?

I have two bags, each about 50 cm wide and 70 cm deep, divided into three pockets and with mesh bottoms, one either side of the companionway. You could also put then on the rear cabin bulkhead depending on the design of your boat. The arrangement works well and they were made by Tec-Sew in Gosport.

Thanks Richard

There's lots of ideas similar to yours here

I like the triple (one for each side of the companionway)
