Why is it that the biggest collection of spiders are found on boats, sitting there waiting to drop on you when you undo the covers.

Other than daily cleaning, not practical how to you keep the little blighters away.

very funny :-) but I don't sport the pony tail and write code like Boatone does just act as an interface between techies and management.

Seen the pics of your boat, V nice, didn't realise the 23 was metres until I took a look - doh!

hi tec solution

I seem to rem the Innovations catalog (total cr@p, but dont you find yourself flicking thru it?) has an ultrasonic insect repellent device. So leave that plugged into the 12 v socket while you're away from the boat? Of course, you'll have no blimmin idea if it's working or not.....unless you take the cats and they go nuts and chew your fenders then kill each other

If the boats 23m, suggest fit two.

Dont think thats true. I've never seen a sea spider yet. But when I get back home from the boat, The house looks like it's the Adams Families House. Funny my sons called Adam, so maybe it is!!

No one can force me to come here-----------

I must confess that in the past the resident spider population on my boat and I had heated words about who actually was in charge. They did tend to leave the remaons of their dinner all over the place. It turned out that as they had been aboard for longer than me I lost.It is always nice however to have someone to talk to when no one will go out on the boat with you.

Exercise is bunk.If you are healthy, you do not need it;if you are sick you should not take it.

Big F***K OFF news paper is what you need, works wonders. However, it can also work to your advantage if you don't want wifey down for the weekend;-)

PS any news paper will do, spiders are not fussy.

Re: old woman solution

the old woman swallowed flies and spiders so get an old woman (or plastic model) and put her in the rigging. This will also keep cats, dogs, cows and horses away too.

Re: hi tec solution

Bought the same thing from the Nauticrappia catalogue. Works like a charm and uses one 9v battery every 3 months or so...

Re: old woman - extra features

You can get inflatable ones I believe. Take up less space when not needed, also double as fenders and life saving devices

Re: Spiders\' choice of web sites

if yioiu were a spider, you'd probly be very good at choosing where to make the web. I expect you'd choose a lightly dampish spot near to where flies might be. in houses or boats that are a bit non-sparkling.

So, item one, is cleabn the boat up with a bit of bleach but not too much. and clean the cupboards.

Next thing is that the spider will want to choose a spot between an interface of light and dark (where the flies will go) , but will choose an area where there isn' t a single intense light - otherwise all the flies will go there and no lunch.

So, item two is to get a nice intense fly light which zaps the flies, and makes the location less appealing spot for spiders to make webs.

Re: Spiders\' choice of web sites

You daft bugger, what are you on today. This one’s really got you going.

The little blighter seem to sit between the overlapping parts of the covers, they don’t seem to be able to get in anywhere else as there aren’t any damp dark little places, well not on the boat ;-)

Bleach around the cockpit area does work for a while but not happy about putting it on the covers – I hear the tie dyed look isn’t in this year :-)

Re: Spiders\' choice of web sites

i din't mean lash on a whole bottle of domestos! But you could wipe the covers with some cleaning stuff which is just bound to be spider-repelling.

One way or another the spiders are finding enough food by way of flies or summink in the boat, so a bleaching ion the flor will sort that and if u can make the inside of the boat darker then no flies = crap place for a spider. Or just eatem?

Re: Spiders\' choice of web sites

I know I'm only pulling your leg, I didn't expect such debate and half posted this as a bit of a spoof.

But spiders seem to like covers to hide in, they don't make webs on the boat just seem to like sitting there, maybe it's the woody mooring I have that makes things worse.

Re: argh woody mooring

I can just see the Lord of the Mannor liking that one - but Sir I was told to do it by my forum buddies.

Wanted new mooring Middle Thames :-)
