Unfortunately in Falmouth we could'nt find a Tesco's but had to make do with Asda's as we were'nt quite prepared for a Coop culture shock. However in Asda's there were some delicious spicy onions .. yum yum .. anyone any idea how to make 'em?

After we moved out of London the first visit to the shops left her horrified, she stood there pointing at bundles of firewood and singing the banjo song out of Deliverence!

Making Spicy Onions

If you pickle your own onions, drop a sliced, whole chilli into each jar along with the pickling spices, also some ground coriander seeds. Not sure if that's what Asda sell, but they are pleasantly spicy.

Branston flavour Pickled Onions are great.

Can do it yourself by dropping dollops of Branston in with your Pickling brew.

If you buy them in Aldi at a third of the price, just spoon out some of the vinegar, and insert some Branston. Reseal jar and come back in a couple of weeks.

Tesco

If you're a Tesco addict, then next time you visit ask in one of their petrol stations for a copy of the Tesco Storefinder. Gives you a map of the UK, with the positions of all Tesco stores, then a list of the stores with directions and services available. Mine is the 2004 edition, but it shows Falmouth as only having a Tesco Metro, sited in Killigrew St.

System isn't perfect, though. Last time I was in Largs it showed the nearest stores as Greenock or Saltcoats. Missed completely the new one in Kilbirnie!

Erm, are you suggesting that the Co-op has particularity attractive frozen chickens? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

"When he was discovered by his wife Jean, the former military policeman, 42, of Glasgow, was dressed in a skirt, silk blouse and rubber stockings."

I'm a little confused here. How can his wife, Jean, be a former military policeman? I know inbreeding in Glasgow is creating genetic problem,s but even so!

What on earth are rubber stockings? Must be awful to put on. Probably something no normal woman would be seen dead in.

Bet you lot will twist that last statement.

Re: Tesco

Hi

Tesco was still in Killigrew St. 2 weeks ago when we restocked there.

But it is a long walk back to the visitor's pontoons with a weeks worth of stores.

Only big problem was that they didn't have any stake & Ale FB pies in stock /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

hi why dont you read jar or what ever they came in as ingredents are usualy on it some where then all you would have to do is put it all together and wait a bit to try.0r go back to a tescos and get them enjoy dave

Hi Jimi

I got a copy of Glasgows Shish Mahal cook book and they make the best spicy onions in the world!

They are also a dawdle to make. If Iremember right, you just chop up your onions , wix some tomato puree with chilli powder, mix altogether and leave for a few hours.....Sorted!

In out and beyond China (Shaanxi) right now but will check the recipe when I get home. Some interesting (and challenging !) dishes out here I can tell you

Cameron
