Re: Simple English Forum

Easy /forums/images/icons/frown.gif - AOL think you are a spammer, probably because of your newsletters. As a result they've stopped you sending emails to AOL customers

you need to strip out the 554- from 554-http://www.aol.com/info/bulkemail.html

Re: Simple English Forum

Strip out all of the 554- and it makes a bit more sense. 554 is a character control which has been inserted because the two emails systems not speaking exactly the same dialect of computerese

Re: Simple English Forum

Nope Brendan, couldn't be that. The newsletters go on BT and allgadgets mail goes on Pipex, but certainly Pipex and BT both get rejected by my Russian suppliers ISP's, something to do with the way they configure their systems so it could be that.

I have to send to Russia using a ukonline account.

Re: Simple English Forum

well, whichever server you are trying to send this email through, it's been identified by AOL as producing complaints, and they are barring it.

It could simply be that your ISP's server has been hammering them recently

Ask Kim to add "spellcheck" to the forum like they have on the Bayliner Owners Club forum , I know my spelling is often poor but if challanged claim it to be the "metric "version.

AOL

I can help on this.

AOL have blocked ALL emails from BT servers and many other internet providers.

I have complained to BT abuse team and they say AOL have taken this action to protect themselves from virus and spam email.

BT will request that AOL release your email address (your specific IP address) but I would not hold your breath.

On our website we need to email our client back and this AOL thing is a problem.

We are posting to all our AOL customers a recomendation to dump AOL. We are sending them a copy of the BY reply showing that our problem is casued by AOL.

pm if you need any more help.

Yes, you are correct.

But i believe that contributors were a lot more partic with spelling a few years ago,but these days the general message for casual posts is all that matters, isn't it? I have a tendency to hit letters in the wrong sequence like "ceratinly" but not too much damage done is there. Bit dul to break up a thread with "ooh a spelling mistake" posts innit? i especially like lowercase "i" as at start of this sentence which tends to seem a lot less pompous, though is again syntactically incorrect.

oh,m and welcome anyway, keep us up to scratch, well done.

Typing or writing letters in the wrong order, or missing a letter or word completely, is not an example of spelling errors but a phenomenon called, I believe, lipography. Something to do with the brain working ahead of the hands. Intersetingly (see!), it does generally occur consistently with certain words and not at all with others. One of yours is obviously ceratinly (which I've noticed as you mention it). Two of mine are interset and anything ending ...mnet - sorry, ...ment. I'm pretty used to mine now so I remember to look up at the screen (not being a touch typer) and check whether I've got it right or wrong, correcting as I go along. Still manage to get it wrong first time witth surprising consistency.

Yes, I've got several like that, including they're and their - which I fully understand the difference between - but not easy to check quickly when I've finished typing, as it doesn't jump out as much as a spelling mistake, and I'd have to re-read the full text in context to catch such errors.

One of the most common round here seems to be planning instead of planing, though I'm sure that most do know how to spell it if they thought about it. The other is deisel.
