Speeding

No wake zones sound like an excellent way forward. I nominate Windsor between Windsor Bridge and the bridge up by the Leisure Centre and the Kingston side of Ravens Ait down to Kingston rail bridge. Both are places I have been bounced around significantly.

Am I being petty to suggest that navigating within 10m of moored boats unless mooring/leaving a mooring is dubious etiquette? Considerations of space etc of course, but the stream of small craft on a busy afternoon gets the water moving about a bit as well.

When moored up wake issues are not the only problem. When moored in a shallow spot, the water displacement of the larger boats, especially the pleasure boats can cause a huge amount of surging, even though there is virtually no wash from the actual boat. For us this is more of a problem then a bit of wash, especially when boats are moored so close together as it can be quite disconcerting seeing the boats surging at different times and the inevitable snatching of ropes. I know when we 'politely' ask boats to slow down it isn't apparent to them, as they look at the back of the boat and see no wash but don't realise the surge it causes. For us, it seems to be particularly bad at the Hampton Court moorings, especially in summer when river levels are quite low. Mind you, I would like to stick a speed gun on some of those pleasure boats around Windsor...

Boats moored close together :-) I wish lol, rather than leaving gaps too small to moor in between 6 boats that would fit another 3 boats in if they all moved up. However agree with your post when boats are actually considerate enough to moor close
