Speed seal

Yes I have.

Pros: makes changing the impeller a very much easier job & saves fiddling with wee screws and a gasket etc.

Cons: As you are no doubt aware, as the pump has the face plate on the engine side, it still means removing the pump to do the job. This is not a "con" because of the Speedseal but just IMHO a bad design feature. I carry a reconditioned pump with new impeller fitted in case I have to do an emergency replacement.

I did this on my 2GM20 on my previous boat - a very satisfactory improvement which, even with the back-to-front orientation of the pump, proved simple to use when I had to do it for real in a very lumpy sea. Just a matter of slackening the hose clips so that the whole pump can be rotated.

Well not quite so simple as the unit still has to be unbolted & the drive belt released before above can be done. After changing the impeller the unit would then have to be refitted and the drive belt re-tensioned. However, if you were to do it like this, then the Speedseal would indeed make life very much easier.

Has anyone fitted a Speedseal to a Yanmar 2GM20F and if 'yes' what pros and cons are there?

If you do go for it get the latest run dry version with the plastic disc inside the housing. WhenI upgraded to this version from the standard version it solved all my priming problems when relaunching. The impeller wear rate is reduced and I only change impellers every other year
