Don't get me on my hobby horse of sea-stabilised versus ground stabilised radar.....mind you, this is only really relevant in non-tidal areas.

The best explanation is on Play d'eau's website. It's used by at least one of the RYA's schools, the one which is run by one of the survivors of the yacht Wahkuna collision in 2003.
