Speed filter for gps

I used to use a Garmin 72. I used a setting call "Speed Filter" to slow down the course readings so that it showed a sensible COG rather than an every second variation.

In Open CPN I currently use a USB GPS. I have not been able to find a way of filtering the speed of recording COG so one roll with a wave sends it mad!

I am thinking of getting a new handheld GPS to replace the now absent Garmin 72 but I can't find any that mention this feature in the manual.

Is there something I am missing or has it changed its name?

Yes I thought that should do it but it didn't affect things. I even set it for 20 seconds but it still showed my heading wobbling all over the place. I just realised that this may be because a USB GPS is not working on NMEA. I'll try plugging in an old Garmin 12 and see if that has any effect.
