Speed Camera Yet Again (Non Boat)

Another licence (or another 12 point allowance) would be very handy!

The fact is that I consider myself a responsible driver and although I have 6 points for speeding I'm not a fast driver - both convictions were for doing less than 10mph over the speed limit.

As to whether I'd pass my test again now, I would like to think so although I do believe that the current test is tougher on the candidate......doesnt stop some complete walleys from getting behind the wheel though!!

Re: gps speed check...

"my car speedo reads nearly 10% high after around 50mph."

A motor dealer friend once told me that the manufacturers are encouraged, by the DoTp, to install "optimistic" speedos. Therefore, when we are happily cruising along at limit plus 10%, as is the wont of most of us, we are, in fact, obeying the limit and being good little citizens. Maybe an urban myth, but your checks tend to bear it out.

Re: gps speed check...

Which is why when I do the speed limit acording to my MGB the rest of you lot are _always_ going too slow!!
I too checked it out on my GPS (changed to MPH first!) and the speedo on the Astra I tested was reading noticably higher than the GPS ... so ... when your caught by a speed camera you really ARE speeding!

I know that road well as I often return from business in Ireland via the ferry (Hollyhead) and it drives me nuts. To leave HH at 00.15 hrs and have to go through so many speed limit changes, and I swear they are there only to catch the un-suspecting motorist. One minute it's 70 mph then 30, then 50. I have taken to using the cruise control just to stay within the limits and to jog along through those tunnels at 50mph when your the only car about and thinking about the overnight journey to Kent. I always feel like I'm standing still?

They\'re the ones

without Road Fund licence or insurance and probably no MOT or driving licence.

A traffic division friend of mine reckons that nearly 40% of cars in some parts of the UK ar of this sort (and of course) they never get caught, fined or found.

Drive as fast as you like.

As long as it's pouring with rain you can drive as fast as you like! Radar and laser can't detect you as it's refracted by raindrops and speed cameras can't see you because of spray.
