Speed, but little power

It is generally reckoned that you need 4hp per tonne minimum. I have 7 (Bavaria) and in a blow she needs almost all of that to keep her pushing along nicely. I suspect your nice boat is underpowered - you are not alone!

all the replies that you have had seem good advice
have a look at the plate on your engine you will most likely find that that it is only realy 6 hp and not all that big horses either and by now rather tired ponies
check the obvious things like gearbox ratios etc but you will need a lot more torque to keep the boat going forward against any sea or wind
how long does it take you to get best rinning speed even in flat weather ?
