Specifying New Genoa Sheets - Clew Attachment

Mine are individual stitched eyes as I already had two sheets. The joints are covered with heat shrink. It's surprising how few stitches are needed. I also have a 50mm ABS tube over the baby stay to help the clew roll round.

We have sewn our 10mm dyneema sheets into hollow dyneema tape using braided dyneema fishing line. Each sheet occupies about 30% of the tape and the centre section is left empty. The centre section is cow hitched to the clew - being empty it is low profile. The tape being dyneema it is slippery, strong and abrasion resistant. We use this system on both our 45^2m screecher and our 35^2m genoa. Both sails are on furlers. The sails stay on the yacht 365 and we sail 365. If we take the sails off - the sheets are coiled and packed with the sails.

Its not our idea - it was introduced to me when we raced in HK and was used by Neil Pryde. Then it was hollow nylon tape (because dyneema was still only a dream). We just updated it.

Most of the rope makers sell hollow dyneema braid and any sailmaker would make up a pair of sheets for you - but its easier, sorry cheaper, to do it yourself.

+1 from me. Used on all the jibs at our training centre, we find no need for the stopper knot either.

Sorry, I don't understand. In VicS post I assume that the stopper knot is large enough to stop the sheet eye from pulling through, but you say you dont use a stopper knot. Can you explain in a bit more detail please?

Refer to the picture - the loop is passed through the clew , whilst the short length stitched on goes through the part of the loop which has passed through. Easier to do than describe, but I hope that helps.
